Jaisalmer

We've been in Jaisalmer for 2 days now, staying at a ridiculously cheap hotel- paying $2.50 each for a room with 2 double beds, bathroom and shower... the toilet doesn't really flush, but that's ok. The cook at the restauant is a very funny guy, named Rahul, so we've had some good laughs chatting with him over dinner the last 2 nights, last night included each of us (Rahul, another indian, 2 germans, Jane and I) singing songs in our own languages. Yesterday was the last day of a 9 day festival, so we had the pleasure of seeing the Maharaja of Jaisalmer. Started at the Mandir Palace, with dances and music and then he came out and got on his horse, with all the people following him walking across town. We walked in this procession to the fort, which was absolutely packed with people, and there they did some more shows- dances, swords, fire- I couldn't see much though, cause I'm short. But it was a great atmosphere and heaps of fun. Today we booked ourselves a jeep and camel trip to the desert, staying there overnight. We went to the lake- not much really, we got stared at a bit more as per usual.

Estos 2 ultimos dias estvimos en Jaisalmer, quedandonos en un hoel ridiculamente barato- estamos pagando $5 pesos cada una, por un cuarto con 2 camas dobles y nuestra propia ducha y banio- el boton del banio no funciona, pero eso es un detalle minimo. El cocinero del resaurante es un indio muy gracioso llamado Rahul, asi que estuvimos teniendo unas charlas muy divertidas con el las ultimas 2 noches durante la cena, y anoche cada uno (Rahul, otro indio, 2 alemanes, Jane y yo) cantando canciones en nuestros respectivos idomas. Ayer fue el ultimo dia de un festival de 9 dias, asi que tuvimos el placer de ver al Maharaja de Jaisalmer. Empezo el show en el Palacio Mandir, con bailes y musica, y despues salio el Maharaja y se subio a su caballo, y toda la gente lo siguio caminando, cruzando el pueblo. Caminamos en esta procesion hasta el fuerte, que estaba llenisimo de gente, y ahi hicieron mas shows- bailes, espadas, fuego- pero la verdad yo no pude ver mucho, porque soy petisa. Pero el ambiente era muy alegre y estuvo muy divertido. Hoy nos reservamos un tour en jeep y camello al desierto, y vamos a pasar la noche ahi. Fuimos al lago- no es gran cosa, pero los indios nos miraron fijo un poco mas, como de costumbre.
