Jaipur

A few hours after my great hair cut we got an overnight bus to Jaipur-12 hours. Which means we went back into no liquids consumption mode again, as we do prior to every bus trip- buses have no toilets, and although they do have toilet stops along the way, for us foreigners it's a mystery when they will happen. We got to Jaipur about 5 or 6 am, and after breakfast and checking in into the hotel we slept until about midday. Believe it or not, the non AC bus was freezing cold cause all the windows were open and I couldn't sleep all night because of the cold... bizarre! And I guess the background indian music also helped. So after waking up we had a muchly unsuccesful afternoon, walking round in circles, getting lost, and not really achieving much with the day. But hey, I bought myself a watch for $1.50 (cause the one I had bought in Hong Kong for about $2.50 stopped working), and it did work for about... maybe a full 3 minutes? Enough for me to walk out of the shop and having walked about 100 metres in the heat decided it was not worth it going back to the shop. But today was a more succesful day, and I'm onto watch number 3 since the trip began- this one was a full $11 and has a 1 year warranty, so I'm hoping it will last at least for a couple of months. We went to the old city today- inside the old fort walls. Up a tower. Into the city palace and museum. Walked around. Jane got her horoscope done by an "astrologist and palmist". We then went to the movies- we had been told that it is a great experience, and they were right! People in the cinema went crazy, cheering, yelling, whistling when the main stars came on screen- fully clapping and talking and aaaaaah and ooh noising. The movie was hillarious, it had its good share of singing, dancing, and head and hips moving so we were happy. We were hoping to go to a national park in the next couple of days, to try and spot some tigers but it looks like it's closed at the moment. So we'll see, we might stay here in Jaipur a couple more days or maybe leave tomorrow somewhere else.

Unas horas despues de mi gran corte de pelo nos tomamos un omnibus hacia Jaipur- 12 horas. Lo que significa que de nuevo a no tomar liquidos desde unas horas antes del viaje, como es la costumbre antes de tomarnos cualquier omnibus. Los bondis no tienen banios, y aunque hacen paradas durante el camino, para nosotros, los extranjeros, es un gran misterios cuando y que tan seguido seran las paradas. Llegamos a Jaipur tipo 5 o 6 de la manana. Despues de desayunar y registrarnos en el hotel dormimos hasta mas o menos el mediodia. Crease o no, en el bondi (sin aire acondicionado) me mori de frio toda la noche porque estaban todas las ventanas abiertas, asi que no pude dormir nada... una locura! Eso, y supongo que la musica india de fondo ayudo tambien. Asi que despues de despertarnos tuvimos una tarde poco exitosa- caminamos en circulos, nos perdimos varias veces, y la verdad no logramos hacer mucho con nuestro dia. Ah! Pero me compre un reloj por mas o menos $3 pesos (porque el que me habia comprado en Hong Kong por $5 pesos dejo de funcionar), y este reloj me funciono mas o menos por... casi 3 minutos enteros! Lo suficiente para haber salido del negocio y caminado 1 cuadra en el calor, y decidir que no valia la pena volver al negocio. Pero hoy fue un dia mas exitoso, y ya voy por el tercer reloj desde que empece el viaje- este me costo como $22 pesos y tiene un anio de garantia, asi que espero que me dure aunque sea un par de meses. Hoy fuimos a la parte antigua de la ciudad, dentro de las murallas de lo que era el antiguo fuerte. Subimos una torre. Fuimos al museo y palacio de la ciudad. Caminamos. Jane se hizo su horoscopo con un "astrologo y palmista". A la noche fuimos al cine- nos habian contado que era toda una experiencia, y totalmente verdad! La gente en el cine se enloquecio- gritando, silbando, alentando cuando aparecian los actores principales en pantalla- hablando en voz alta, aplaudiendo, y haciendo aaaaaah y oooooooooh en todo momento. La pelicula fue muy graciosa, con una buena proporcion de baile, canto, y movimiento de caderas y cabezas, asi que estuvimos conformes. Teniamos pensado ir a un parque nacional en un par de dias, para tratar de ver tigres, pero parece que esta cerrado en estos momentos el parque. Asi que vamos a ver, tal vez nos quedemos aca en Jaipur otro par de dias, o a lo mejor nos vayamos manana a otra ciudad.
